The fissures are showing in Team India as it gets ready to attend the canonization on Sunday, with Team Bengal deciding to forge a separate identity for itself at the ceremony.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Rajya Sabha leader Derek O'Brien, Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay and others from Bengal have decided to go separately to the Vatican on Sunday and not be a part of the official Indian delegation led by minister of external affairs
Sushma Swaraj.
They are also not attending a dinner hosted by the Indian ambassador in Italy on Saturday evening.
All this, say Trinamool insiders, may be part of Mamata's plans to maintain an identity distinct from BJP and the central government, even on foreign soil.
